Position Summary
As part of the Clinical Informatics team, this position utilizes clinical practice and hospital operational knowledge to provide day to day support for clinicians, managers and staff for the purpose of improving the effectiveness (quality and safety), and efficiency (cost and streamlining) of care delivery across Lahey Hospital and Medical Center.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to)
- System development, design and implementation:
- Gathers input from multidisciplinary team stakeholders and seeks feedback to define and address problems and to recommend IT solutions.
- Reviews workflow and other pertinent information to formulate system recommendations that will result in efficiencies, improved patient care and/or improved data collection and analysis.
- Serves as the clinical liaison on development and implementation projects, conveying clinical care, operational issues, and needs.
- Tests or assists in testing, implementation of new systems, upgrades, and enhancements minimizing disruption and downtime.
- Ongoing system utilization throughout clinical areas:
- Troubleshoots questions and problems related to clinical applications using critical thinking and analytical skills.
- Collaborates with IT team members to resolve issues, brainstorm, complete tasks, and conduct thorough investigations.
- Identifies trends and opportunities for system or procedural changes and education; offers suggestions to improve performance of clinical systems and procedures.
- Participates in post-implementation change evaluation and supports users in maintaining changed processes.
- Training and communications:
- Creates, edits, and/or contributes to system documentation, policies and procedures, and communications related to clinical system usage and changes in procedures.
- Develops materials and educational programs; trains clinical system users including clinical and non-clinical staff, leaders, and medical staff as requested; collaborates with Nursing Leadership and/or Nursing Education to optimize effectiveness of educational programs involving clinical applications.
- Project/team participation and leadership:
- Leads or participates in multidisciplinary projects and teams related to clinical system use and improvements; applies Lean Six Sigma in project management.
- Investigates root and contributory causes of barriers and performance gaps.
- Creates project plans with objectives and timelines to streamline processes and improve performance, engaging stakeholders and achieving consensus for behavioral and procedural modifications.
- Maintains project tools to communicate status and keep teams on track to meet goals.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of nursing practices, regulatory standards, and organizational direction to support end-users and multidisciplinary teams.
- Organizational requirements:
- Maintain strict adherence to the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center Confidentiality policy.

- Participate in quality improvement activities and mandatory education; maintain certifications as required.
- Perform all other duties as needed to meet the needs of the department.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
- Licensure: Active State of MA RN License
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in an acute care setting. Experience with Epic EHR. IT experience or advanced IT training
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Demonstrated skills and knowledge with clinical informatics.
- Ability to translate clinical needs into system application solutions.
- Ability to coordinate and prioritize tasks and project components.
- Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma and project management tools/techniques.
- Demonstrated project management skills.
- MS Word, Excel, and PPT proficient.
Preferred
- Education: Master’s Degree in Informatics or related field.
- Certifications: Informatics Certification or Epic Certification
